Kolkati Airport has completed its second phase of construction, bringing the air transport hub to completion.
The airport’s first phase, which opened in February this year, had a capacity of 12,000 passengers and had a daily traffic of just 100.
The second phase, scheduled to start in September, will bring the airport’s capacity to 16,000 and its daily traffic to 50,000.
The air transport hubs are expected to help ease the pressure on the airport, which is currently experiencing heavy traffic as people travel from the south and the east.
Kolkata’s new hub has the capacity of around 4,000 to 5,000 seats and the daily traffic is expected to be around 1,500.
The project is expected in stages over the next three years.
